Why Do Some Dogs Behave Badly?

Nobody wants to have a dog that exhibits bad dog behavior. There are many reasons why dogs will behave badly and if you are serious about keeping your dog and having a good relationship with it then you will need to find out why your dog has bad dog behavior and discover ways to modify his behavior. Aggression in dogs is absolutely the responsibility of the owner to modify. Although there are many types of aggression, this article will discuss fear-induced aggression.

A dog that is displaying aggressive behavior may be acting in a way that may lead to an attack. You must remember that aggression is a natural reflexive action of all dogs. Some dogs may be more aggressive than otherwise. In fact some breeds can have naturally higher territorial instincts that lead to aggression. Dogs can also become aggressive if they are incorrectly trained or have been treated harshly.

Fear-induced behavior is an example of a dog that has been mistreated or badly frightened. Sometimes the fear is toward all humans and sometimes the fear is triggered by situations, sounds and even a person’s clothing. For example, if a dog was mistreated by someone who always wore a baseball cap, then it is very possible that anyone in a baseball cap will trigger fear-induced aggression and bad dog behavior toward the person wearing the baseball cap.

A dog with fear-induced aggression may become a biter so it is very important that his behavior is modified quickly. You may need to consult a professional trainer, however, there are some things you can do on your own. Find out what triggers the fear. Is it an article of clothing, a sound? Then you need to find a way to get the dog completely desensitized to the trigger. For example, if it is a hat then place a hat on the floor in a central location. Then encourage him to examine the hat. Let the dog become used to seeing you with the hat once they have explored it.

With a lot of love and patience you can modify fear-induced behavior and just think of the positive affect this will have on your dog, it’s worth it.
