A dog must be given exercise daily to prevent weight problems and to keep his bones and muscles healthy. Some people walk their dog without any problems, but some may need a little preparation before venturing into the street.
Make sure that your dog has proper identification with him when you go out for a walk. A dog tag placed in his collar that has his name as well as your contact number will be okay, but they can easily get lost. A tattoo in your dog’s ears as well as an imbedded chip may be best to keep your dog’s identity. You can also have the option of having your dog’s photograph in your wallet so you can easily track him down just in case the two of you get separated.
Your dog must have something on him to keep him in check. A collar that is connected with a leash is the most commonly utilized method to keep a dog in check during walks. This will prevent him from rushing to the street when cars are passing by.
It is also needed when there are other dogs around and you do not want your dog to be distracted. If your dog is not comfortable with a leash, then purchase a harness for this purpose.
Check to see if dogs are allowed in the place where you want to go. Some malls do not allow dogs inside their premises unless it is a Seeing Eye dog, or if it is a sensor dog trained to stay with his master if a seizure is eminent. Dogs are also generally allowed inside buses and in certain park trails. Call the park’s customer center and ask if they have any restrictions with regards to dogs accessing several areas.
It is very important that you carry with you some means to pick up after your dog. A poop scooper can be easily purchased in pet stores for this purpose. Some parks make it mandatory that you must scoop after your dog and dispose of it properly.
If you find it tedious to bring with you a poop scooper for a simple walk in the park, then a plastic bag that can be sealed will do just the trick. After your dog poops, turn the bag inside out and put your hand in. This will act as some sort of a glove to protect your hand as you pick up the poop. Afterwards, turn the bag right side out and seal it before disposing it inside a trash bin.
Carry with you enough dog treats, as well as water for both you and your dog. Nothing ruins a perfect day like dehydration. Make sure that you offer your dog sips of water every now and then, especially if the weather is proving to be sunny and warm.
Go out and have a fun day with your dog. As long as your dog is physically fit to walk, you can spend the whole day at the park just walking and enjoying the view and watching other people and dogs do their thing.
