Every dog owner claims to love their dogs. And what’s not to love? Dogs are great companions, they bring you so much fun and they can make you smile every day.
But how do we show our dogs that we truly love them? Here are several ways you can do to show your pet how much he means to you.
Keep your dog healthy. Bring your dog to your veterinarian if he looks sick or acts sick. Remember that dogs can’t talk and they can’t tell you when they’re sick or don’t feel good, so be keen in watching your dog’s abnormal behaviors since it may be signs of an illness. Your dog relies on you to care for him. Taking good care of your dog when he is sick is one great way of showing your love to him.
Constantly check your dog. One way of showing your pet pooch that you love him is to keep watch of him. Monitor your dog if he is eating, drinking and having normal bowel movements. If you are spending time together and he is sitting with you, check his body for lumps and bumps and note any irregularities.
Give good preventive care to your dog. Aside from taking good care of your doggie when he is sick, preventing illnesses and other health problems with good preventive care is also a great way to show your pet how much you love him. Prevent parasite infestation in your dog with prescribed medication from veterinarian. Parasites like fleas, ticks and heartworm brings a lot of discomfort to your pet aside from the potential health risks that are associated with these parasites.
Provide your dog regular playtime. Playing with your dog everyday does not only shows how much you love him but also a great way of spending time with your pet and making your pet-owner relationship stronger. Know what your dog likes and play with him every day. Providing good toys to your dog are really essential to his health as well as to his happiness.
Spend some quiet time with your dog. In addition to spending regular playtime with your pooch, your pet also needs some quiet bonding moments with you. Every time your pet sits or lie down beside you when you are watching TV, or reading a book, or just lazily lounging in the porch, give him an ear rub or a tummy rub. Doing this will create a relaxing environment to your dog.
Keep watch on your dog’s weight. Constantly monitor your dog’s weight. Overweight and obese dogs suffer a variety of health problems like joint and arthritis problems. If your pet is obese, consult your veterinarian about a recommended diet for your pet. Limit on giving your pet treats, you can try giving him smaller pieces of treats or try giving him a low-calorie treat. It is also important that you follow proper feeding instructions and do not over-feed your dog.
Boost your dog’s good behavior. Everybody loves a “good” dog. Every time your dog does a great job or behaving properly, provide him with a lot of praises and positive encouragement. Boosting your dog’s good behavior will make him more desirable and lovable to everyone he meets and of course to you. It will positively make him happy and the encouragement and praises are great ways of showing how much you love him!
