There is no feeling like the one you get when you bring your new puppy home. Making sure that feeling of excitement never fades can be a daunting task when you’re attempting to train your puppy. Puppies, like children require love and patience. Training a puppy requires consistency.
All too often people feel a sense of frustration while training their dogs. This sense of frustration can be greatly multiplied when trying to train a puppy. Think of your puppy as a blank slate, they are completely new to the world and their environment. In addition to learning the basic training, puppies are also becoming acquainted with the world around them. Dog owners must take this into account when attempting to train their puppies.
For some one of the biggest obstacles in puppy training is housebreaking your puppy. There are those that feel when their puppy has an accident in the house an appropriate training method is to rub the puppies nose in its mess. This training tactic is not only barbaric but cruel. Arcane training methods such as this only serve to hinder the training process as it confuses and scares your puppy. A confused and scared puppy will have a harder time trusting its owner.
In order to train your dog, especially a puppy effectively your dog must be able to trust you. When attempting to housebreak your puppy, the appropriate method is to remove the puppy from the area and place it outside where his owner wants him to do his business or on its pad or paper. Consistently adhering to this will eventually train your puppy where it needs to go to to its business.
Dogs and puppies are instinctual creatures, and attempting to learn how dogs and puppies act will allow you to utilize their instincts to your benefit. In the wild puppies depend upon their mothers to teach them the ways of the world and the pack in which they live. Attempting to emulate the actions of techniques that a puppies mother would use can aid you in training your puppy.
When a puppy is engaging in an undesirable behavior, the puppies mother will give it a very low and long growl. The purpose of this growl is to let the puppy know it is misbehaving. It is used as a warning of sorts. Although it may sound a bit unconventional, utilizing the same method of growling in a low and slow manner can also be an effective teaching tool for your puppy.
Dog ownership is a rewarding experience and training your dog properly can be just as rewarding for both you and your puppy. By being consistent, patient and nurturing training your puppy will not be such a daunting task.
